RV Mattresses

One of the great joys of living in the Kootenays is, without a doubt, the camping. The Great Outdoors are indeed great, and there are fewer places on the planet where they are greater than the Canadian Rockies. So with the warm weather finally returning to us, we’re all tuning up our bikes, charging our Bluetooth speakers, and vacuuming out our RVs.

For those RV enthusiasts out there, one thing that’s important to keep in mind is your mattress. Having a good night’s sleep can make or break a camping trip, but the problem is most mattresses that come with an RV are terrible! They're often thin, cheap and uncomfortable.

My family has been RVing for years. I love it now, but the first year we went, I got the worst nights of sleep I’ve had in my life. I’ve never considered myself someone who cared about having a good mattress until I slept on a really, REALLY bad one. I could feel each individual crappy coil in that thing, and I wondered if curling up in my dog’s bed would be more comfortable. By Night Three I was so sleep-deprived, I completely dissolved into hysterics after the hot dog I was cooking over the fire fell into the dirt. I ate it anyway, and the taste of dirt mingled with my tears.

The next year my parents bought new mattresses for the RV before we went out. The difference was astounding. Having a good night’s sleep on a good quality mattress completely changed camping for me.

Now that you’re aware of the dangers of having a bad mattress, here are some things to keep in mind. Here at The Bedroom, we carry the standard RV Queen mattress, which has a queen width of 60” and a double length of 75”.

Many RV’s have a very custom, cut-out space for a mattress with very specific dimensions for length, width and height, that might not match the standard RV Queen size. But we can take care of that too, because we can order custom-sized mattresses built to exactly fit your space.

The weight of the mattress is also important. Some conventional mattresses can be too heavy for an RV. Our mattresses are good quality, but also lightweight, so it doesn’t add to your towing capacity, and is easy to lift and move around if needed.

Our RV mattresses can come with more natural materials, like latex foam or Tencel fabric. Many mattresses have gel-infused foam, too, to help prevent excess heat.

The Bedroom has the best selection of RV mattresses in town, so you can choose whether you want a memory foam or coil mattress, something firm or something soft, and either way you can be assured that you’re getting just as good a sleep as you'd get at home. Because there’s no point to sleeping under the stars if you, you know, can’t sleep.

So this summer, invest in an RV mattress from the Bedroom, and go have an excellent adventure.
